HP

( Oct. 20th, 2007 11:29 pm)
So I don't read much HP stuff anymore. It just seems to piss me off every time I read something new. It is really a shame overall. I mean this was something I cared about, maybe too much. I find it to be incredibly depressing what has happened to the series overall. Now when ever I read the latest articles about it I just get mad. So I'm thinking I'm just not going to be reading them anymore. It kind feels like someone died.
Here are a few pictures from last weekend's Harry Potter birthday party for the kids:

I dressed up all the kids in Slytherin gear. *grinz* I even tipped their hair green. Celia's came out really pretty. I also made Chocolate Frogs, 2 flavors of Licorice Wands, Cockroach Clusters, a kick ass HP Cake, Rice Pudding, and I never finished the Pumpkin Pasties but I'll probably do that today.

The cake actually came out pretty good all in all. I learned a few things about playing with molten sugar and fondant. The weird brown lumps on it are my twisted version of the forbidden forest. Need to find that HP Food LJ group Stefka showed me so I can post pictures.

This has also brought to mind something I have been thinking about for a while now. I really really really need an airbrush machine for my decorating. I know it seems like a bit of an expense to have for someone who is an amateur like myself but I find there are so many things that could look better if only I had the right tools. I went looking around online today and the machine and colors aren't really all that expensive.

This bad boy is only around 160 and looks to be all I would need. Colors aren't to bad at about 12 bucks for 11-2oz versions or 11-9oz for 25.  So maybe this will be what I beg Santa Claus for. It would make decorating so much easier. I do pretty much all the birthday cakes at the house. And quite a few non-birthday cakes as well. Good investment me thinks. Now all I need to do is find a vendor for some of the more interesting toppings like fondant and the what not. Though i won't want fondant as a regular addition for covering the whole cake.  It is not a family favorite. But it is useful for so many things. As is modeling chocolate and gum paste. Two other things which I need to find some where inexpensive to buy them from. Hmmm who is the next birthday? Think it is Murph or Charlie.

I need some new cake decorating icons.

So I went to the midnight madness thing with my friends and family. Here's my first and a bit truncated response.

2 fights I almost got into with people
6 children scared
20 thousand people I wanted to murder
12 people I went with
4 children who got way over tired
3 books purchased
0 books worth reading purchased

Yeah so it was cool and the suck. I managed to scare a bunch of people. I almost kicked the shit out of some punk bitch. He made a comment as I walked passed. (Slytherins suck is what he said.  The look on his face when I stopped and turned around was priceless. Something like "Oh fuck" mixed with "I'm going to die". He said something stupid later and Kibble scared him. I really wanted to go start a fight because I was in a hella bad mood. I also got a "Oh my god" from some kids as I passed them. I was trying to get through and I was saying "excuse me" over and over again. There was a group of boys and one of them said "Move out of the way she'll punch you in the face." So my response was "yes I will. Good boy." Then the other one said "Oh my god." It would have been funny but I was in that hella bad mood.

Anyhow my book responses at some other point.

Well today is the release of the newest HP book. We find out if ye olde carpet book is fake or not.

Wicked busy today. I have a huge cake planned for the kids birthday party. I also want to finish washing the floors and I need to call the school. *sighs* Busy, busy, oh and I have Pumpkin Pasties to finish as well.

Off I go.

So now that I've had my one big "Oh noes the book is the suck and this spoiler is horrible" freakoutfest I'm utterly enjoying reading all the stuff going on about the new book. I'm not sure I care if the story that got leaked is real or not. okay I do care because I think it sucks and sucks hard. But if it is a fake *whistles* I can't decided if I want to clap or shake my head. If you have the time to fake seven hundred odd pages of HP fiction and then take pictures of it with your phone. DAMN. You are either hardcore or really sad. Actually I'm voting for both.

'Harry Potter' publisher gets subpoena to identify pirate
From Bloomberg News
July 17, 2007

Scholastic Corp., publisher of the new "Harry Potter" book, obtained a subpoena to learn the identity of a user who allegedly posted copies of the final sequel, scheduled for release Saturday, on a California website.

Scholastic said in a court filing Monday that "materials hosted on Photobucket.com's system" contain materials that infringe copyrights owned by Scholastic and J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. Photobucket.com, a News Corp. unit, is a website for sharing photos and videos on social networks such as MySpace.

The subpoena was sent to Gaia Interactive Inc. in San Jose seeking the identity of a user on gaiaonline.com, a social network, according to the filing in San Francisco federal court.

Gaia complied with the subpoena, removed the material and temporarily banned the user from the site, said Gaia spokesman Bill Danon. The postings included scanned material and a discussion of the material, he said.

LOL I'm in love with this week.

Well since I slept way late I may not bother to sleep tonight. I have lots of errands to run tomorrow and a party to get set. We shall see.
Hmm spoilers.... I just don't care. *shrugs* Maybe it is because I'm not expecting much of this book or maybe it is because I'm reading absolutely everything including the supposedly 'leaked' pages. Anyhow I don't care. I'm still going to get a copy of the book. I'm still going to read at least part of it the night it comes out. This is one of the time where I feel you really can't spoil it for me.

Anyhow I'm pretty excited still. And I can't wait to finish up my errands for today and start reading.

So the final HP book comes out this week. I can't really say whether I'm dreading its release or getting excited about it. The last two books were disappointing. I've just read a scan of the (supposed) epilogue to DH and I'm not impressed. So I guess I'll see Friday night. This shouldn't bother me as much as it does.
Survey: College wants your input on 'Potter' impact, after-effects

Go check this out peoples. The idea is terribly interesting. Someone is doing a survey to see about non-drug related addictions. LOL The release of DH is a perfect opportunity. Rather disturbing how perfect it is. Anyhow go check it all out. I'm fascinated by this idea.

Hey for those on my F-list who aren't already aware the 3rd and final installment of thw WOMBAT test on JK Rowlings site is now up. Instructions to open it are here.

The test is usually only up for a day or so. If you want to take it I suggest you go now.

This one had alot less random fucking triva and more thoughtful questions. My idea of a good test. Well other then trying to read up on magical theory from a world you have no real interaction with is a BITCH.

I normaly don't pimp random links on my journal but today I have to. Okay so I'm bored at work and I haven't the brain power for any more school work. What does that mean? Yes I'm out looking for HP fanfic. What do I find but this incrediably funny parody of the third movie. Seriously if you have 15 mins and you want to laugh yourself to tears go cheak out:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Fifteen Minutes

It looks like she has done other movies. I'm going to go check them out now. Even if they are only half as funny as the first one I'm in heaven.
