Here are a few pictures from last weekend's Harry Potter birthday party for the kids:

I dressed up all the kids in Slytherin gear. *grinz* I even tipped their hair green. Celia's came out really pretty. I also made Chocolate Frogs, 2 flavors of Licorice Wands, Cockroach Clusters, a kick ass HP Cake, Rice Pudding, and I never finished the Pumpkin Pasties but I'll probably do that today.

The cake actually came out pretty good all in all. I learned a few things about playing with molten sugar and fondant. The weird brown lumps on it are my twisted version of the forbidden forest. Need to find that HP Food LJ group Stefka showed me so I can post pictures.
This has also brought to mind something I have been thinking about for a while now. I really really really need an airbrush machine for my decorating. I know it seems like a bit of an expense to have for someone who is an amateur like myself but I find there are so many things that could look better if only I had the right tools. I went looking around online today and the machine and colors aren't really all that expensive.

This bad boy is only around 160 and looks to be all I would need. Colors aren't to bad at about 12 bucks for 11-2oz versions or 11-9oz for 25. So maybe this will be what I beg Santa Claus for. It would make decorating so much easier. I do pretty much all the birthday cakes at the house. And quite a few non-birthday cakes as well. Good investment me thinks. Now all I need to do is find a vendor for some of the more interesting toppings like fondant and the what not. Though i won't want fondant as a regular addition for covering the whole cake. It is not a family favorite. But it is useful for so many things. As is modeling chocolate and gum paste. Two other things which I need to find some where inexpensive to buy them from. Hmmm who is the next birthday? Think it is Murph or Charlie.
I need some new cake decorating icons.

As for fondant, I've seen it for sale in Joann's and Michaels craft stores. No idea how high the quality is though.

Yeah the retail outlets are a little pricey me thinks. I want to find a wholesaler. There are enough bakeries in town I'm sure there is one somewhere.
