... for your waist-line.

What do you do when you are bored and craving chocolate?

Most people would go to the store or dip into their children's Easter candy. I am not most people. Instead I decided to bake a chocolate devil's food cake with a Pâte á bombe based frosting made with Mexican chocolate and then topped with a few curls of milk chocolate.

Oh yeah I am in fact amazing.
Here are two of the pictures from yesterday's commission cake. Here's the link to the rest of the pictures.

I heard the cake was delicious and moist. That is blackwatch plaid on the side done with a food safe airbrush. The runes on the top say "I am Liam's. Seo made me." I need to work on my celtic knot work in frosting. I told them to pay me what ever they wanted because I'm horrible at making up prices on things from people I know. It took me about four hours worth of work including baking times and frosting/decorating. I really need that damned turntable. *sighs* I just can not get the lines clean without it.
I had a cake commission due today that I just completed. I would have worked on it last night but the kitchen was busy all day and I took Justin to the DMV in the morning which ate so much time.

I'm on Charlie duty today with the remaining guys of the household. Unfortunately I've only had 7 hours sleep in the last 48. Ooo yay that should be fun, not. I'm going to go to sleep now I'm just happy I got the commission done. They said plaid was the favorite color so I decided the spray paint the sides of the cake in plaid. Have you ever tried to paint plaid? Yeah not very easy. Plus I was lighter on frosting then I wanted since I ran out. There is plenty there and it is a super rich frosting so you don't need much but still I would have preferred a thicker coating. I'm sure no one will even notice except me. Next time I do a plaid I'm going to go with my original plan of doing it on fondant first and then putting the fondant slabs on the sides of the cake. I think it would have given a cleaner look plus buttercream doesn't absorb the paint as well and I get more dewing. I have no idea what sort of money I'm getting for this cake. I'll post pictures once they are up loaded. I must say it turned out rather fetching and oddly exactly as I intended. Usually I have an idea in my head and I mod it as I go along. Oh and I swear by all the gods the minute I have any spare money I'm getting a turntable for decorating. Half the issues I have with coloring, straight lines, and even frosting would be solved with a freaking turntable.

I like this one: http://www.amazon.com/August-Thomsen-Corp-612-Decorating/dp/B000BVFYUO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Wilton is another well known name but their stands tend to break. The one about is well recommended and a reasonable price. *sigh* Someday.

I finally got around to uploading more pastry pictures to my facebook. Feel free to go check out what I've been doing all year. Or what I've gotten pictures taken of anyway LOL. I have also come to realize that almost no one orders non-chocolate cakes in my family. Out of the ones I did this year I think only Murph's and mine had any other flavors. Though Jeff's also had mint in it.

My Scooby you are looking very tasty

Today was a mixture of really good and really good. Okay make that really good, rather painful, and really good. Day started early with me being unable to sleep at night and only getting 2 hours. No big surprise there. I woke up early baked a chocolate cake for Wyatt's birthday than showered and hit the road for traffic court. They hit me up for money but no points and I left happy. Went shopping for cake supplies and came home to start the cake. During all of this I was dealing with sharp stabbing pains in my lower back. TMI Girl Stuff ) As I was saying, I came home started to decorate the cake which meant making a white chocolate ganache for the filling than taking a nap cause I needed it.

The rest of the day was taken up with cake decorating (yay!) and hanging with my housemates. I dropped the cake to Wyatt and came on home. I had planned on hanging with people in NP but after talking with Wyatt and dropping the cake my back said 'Go Home' and home I went. At present I'm listening to my children trying and quietly walk around upstairs after lights out. *sigh* Too tired to go yell at them again. If they get loud enough I'm sure another adult will get them. one of the perks of a poly household.

Back to relaxing the kinks out of my lower back now.

Oh and for those curious about the cake, I made him an X-Box 360 with two controllers almost entirely out of chocolate ^_^ Teehee

Mmmm edible controller

It is so hot I am having problems getting the buttercream to come together. *grumble*

EDIT: I have showered and I'm hiding in my room. At some point i need to put clothing on and go finish my cake. It is nice and cool in my room so this may take a serious will power roll.
Ugh tired. I dragged myself out of bed at 1 am or something after crashing at 6:30pm because i only snagged two hours of sleep the night before. I woke up like five billion times between those hours anyhow. I started baking once I got up and I just finished. The cake is crumb-coated and chilling in the frig now. I still have a French buttercream to make when I wake up. Not sure what the design itself will be. Probably something relatively simple. Well simple for me anyway. LOL The cake is two flavors, four layers, and like 15 pounds. I used a Swiss meringue buttercream as the crumb-coat for the entire thing. The chocolate side is a devil's food cake with chocolate fudge pudding between the layers. The white side is my standard white cake (minus the almond for Pat) with a cheesecake pudding filling i spiked lightly with a maple sugar liquor. I might use a little more or some maple syrup in the French buttercream. The chocolate side will be frosted with a tangy yogurt based chocolate frosting. I already made it.

The sourdough bread came out very tasty but still had issues with spreading out flat. I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong with that. I think it just needs a form to rise in rather than free form. I must say capturing wild sourdough was a major success though. The wild yeast I caught rises amazingly will with a mild bite. Nice addition to my other sourdough starters. The ones I let go to seed so to speak are slowly coming back to health. I was such a bad yeast farmer for a while.

I'm gonna go crash til noon or so. I have a cake to finish and some errands to run and then it is time to PARTY! Woot this is going to be so much fun! Squee! I am a little sad though. I invited my BostonBrit to visit but wasn't able to get a hold of him to make it work. So no Brit for me. Is very sad. Sleep now.

I just realized something, I have to make a kick ass birthday cake this weekend!!

YAY baking for Seo time!

Um damned I don't know who likes what flavors.

*goes to plot*
*twitch* My grades aren't in and I'm too worked up to sleep. Maybe it is time to do some baking.

*glares* Where are you grades! I both want you here and dread you.

Damnit time to make something delicious to feed others.
Sushi cake did not come out as I planned. It was still very nice but I got really tired and took a nap and ran late on time. Consequently it was not as detailed as I had planned in my head. Everyone liked it and I was throughly complimented.

After cake a few of us went to Sean's room to hang out for a while. Then Sean, Ryan, a couple girls, and I decided to go on an adventure to Walmart in Kingston. It was amazing good times. Then since we were hungry I cooked such kick ass spaghetti and tried to make bubble tea. I need more pearls. Then the girls went to bed, I dropped the boys off, and came home to clean my kitchen. Now I'm going to sleep yay.

I have a job interview tomorrow at Borders. I wanted the job when i applied to it but now I'm not sure. i really wanted a house job that would require me driving all over the place. Plus the hours are a little more flexible. I'm going to go and look it over but I might tell them I've changed my mind or that someone offered me a better position.

Ugh sleeeeeeeep! My head is trying to wander to an ugly place and it is annoying. I do believe sleep is in order.
Today was good. Went to school then met up with Matt, Ryan, Sean, and Eric to do some gaming. Yay gaming. We played Descent which was oodles of fun. Then Sean covered Eric and Me for some mexican and i came home after doing most of my showing for tomorrows cake.

Speaking of cakes, I have been giving considerable thought to starting a very small baking business on campus. I don't think it is against campus rules. Basically birthday cakes and like to be ordered. I don't see myself doing a huge volume but it might be fun and if it works out maybe I'll expand to off campus. The real hard part is my cake self-image. I just don't know if I am actually skilled enough to pull this off. I must say every time I bring a cake on campus I am over run with compliments. That is true but do I really have the skills? I don't think time is too much of an issue. If I don't have the time that week i don't make any damned cakes. I was thinking of setting up a facebook group for it like one chick did for her seamstress thing. Then I'd have to run pricing and what not. I don't have a room on campus so I'd have to give myself something like business hours in the sub caff. Maybe even bring little samples people can try. My mother suggested I go around to local restaurants with samples and the like. I'm just not sure i want to have that large a commitment.

So what do you guys think? Most of you have been cooked for by me at some point or other. Do I have the skills?
And I'm only counting cakes I did while I was home because I still cringe at the Butter Cake incident. *shakes head*

Anyhow for tomorrow's cake I have big plans. Technically I should be off starting now but I'm so tired I can barely see straight so I'm going to sleep for a couple of hours first. There is only one thing i would be dong which is setting the gum paste out to dry in the form of a tray. Worse case that doesn't work and I have to use a real tray instead of a gum paste tray. But gum paste rolled thin drys pretty quick. I should be fine. The theme was sushi and I have taken the idea to the max. I intend to make a fair amount of "sweet sushi" to be placed inside the gum paste tray which will be placed on top of the cake diagonally so that you get a nice display effect. The sweet sushi will be made with a sweetened rice, chocolate instead of nori (the seaweed), and fruit for fillings and what not. They should be major fun to make. The Bestermans brought home marzipan sushi yesterday which while i liked the idea I think you could be even closer to sushi. Haven't figured out what I will use for the pickled ginger yet. It'll come to me tomorrow. I'll probably use a bit of fondant colored green for wasabi. Now on the sides I have been debating what I wanted to do. At first i was going to just cover it in a buttercream and be done with it but then I got to thinking and being creative. As such I am now going to be painting Japanese themed scenes on the fondant I will be using as a cover. So that is my plan for tomorrow's cake. I like being given themes. They allow me to get really creative. I hope it all comes out well. Sean wasn't picky at all so I got to make most of the choices. I need to pick up some red beans to make a red bean paste for the middle. I asked him if he would rather have a pudding or the red bean and the pudding barely won. As such I'm going to make a red bean flavored pudding *grinz*.

Sleep for me. I have a lot to do tomorrow.

So I just woke up after having dreams about dinosaurs, hateful people, superpowers, oh yes and what was the last thing... hmm oh yeah amazing sex. *face palms* Okay libido you and I need to have a serious talk. I realize it is summer and you are bored but um seriously could you cool down a bit.

On a more serious note I went to the doctor's office today. I highly recommend the entire hospital up in Rock Hill. I had to go to a couple different floors for things and everyone was super nice and helpful. I saw my endocrinologist (thanks Nello he rocked!), got an ultrasound of my throat (so cool!), and then spoke with a sleep specialist because they have a sleep lab in the building as well! It was like one stop shopping. I'm supposed to go back tomorrow to visit the pulmonary guy and sleep specialist but i think I need to reschedule. They took six vials of blood to test me for everything under the sun. I also have a 24 hour urine test i have to take. (can we say yum!) Then I go back next week to see the doctor about my test results. Hopefully this will rule out a half a dozen things and we can see how screwy my thyroid really is. After all that i came home and crashed. Didn't get more then an hours sleep yesterday so i was tired. I only just woke up and I'll probably try and head back to sleep again here shortly.

Oh yeah and my sourdough cultures arrived. *evil grin* I have a surprise for the Kheprians bwhahaha!

Oh and I might be getting a ferret and some free birds squee!

Hope you your world is going well LJ. ^_^

Oh yeah my last cake I made for Jesse's b-day. This weekend I have Sean's due with a theme of sushi. I have some spectacular ideas.
I have changed my mind partly about the man-hatred thing. I hate one or three men and that is enough.

On a better note class was boring but I then went and hung out with Sean, Matt P., and their across the hall neighbor Ryan. It was a blast. There was one some dark spot on all of this but I mostly ignored him and was ignored in turn. Yay. :(

Anyhow the new kid is wicked cute and funny as hell. Sean, Ryan and I then walked around campus a bit and talked gaming and other way fun things. It was super nice. I now have a new game I must try out now. That's all I need another vid game addiction. I invited the two of them over at some point for cooking lessons and to watch some kick ass cooking shows. I now must play some more pokemon here real soon. *chuckles* I love geeking about games and shtuff.

Squee so yay good afternoon. I have fed my sourdough starter babies and soon they will be ready for consumption bwhahaha. Mmmm consuming your pets teehee

Squeeeeeeeeeeee! I need this shirt!!!!! Someone love me enough to buy me this shirt! OMG LURVE!!!@!!!!!

I feel very accomplished. So far today I have fixed my car (about an hour and both ends worked on), did my laundry (thank god!), registered for summer courses, faxed the financial aid crap I needed to send in, ordered dog meds/stuff, and taken care of a bunch of bills.

I forgot how much I really love working on cars. I didn't do anything complicated today but it was nice to do it on my own. My dad worked on cars and used to let me help. Still has fond memories attached to it. ^_^

Left to do is run to the post office, start applying to more jobs, file a few things, do some homework, and a bit more laundry. PLus a couple of other things I'm sure I'll think up later. I've been up since 1:30 am so yeah.

Also for my latest baking projects I am starting some work on sourdough breads. I really wanted a sponge from everywhere I have lived but I never started while I was in Albany. Maybe I can convince someone to start one for me and send it to me. They are going well. I gave them their 12 hour feeding and I have another in 3-4 hours. I also have to run and pick up something from a freecycler.

I'm off to start my temp agency calls then maybe start with the faxing of my resume to places. Plus I have to do my telephone interviews for the online work. I might go out and grab a few other applications as well. I'm in desperate need of la moola.

I also think I'm going to have to break down and buy more colored pencils for my baking projects. I have, somewhere, a huge package of different colors in different mediums but I cannot find it ANYWHERE! As such, I'm just going to buy a smallish package to get by on. I have to cakes in the active planning stage. One for Kt's b-day which is Friday and one for Sean. Sean gave me an idea of what he wants, though we need to discuss flavors but Kt has given me nothing but her full confidence (bwhaha). Planning I must start. I already have some ideas but i prefer to put them on paper first. Actually I think Kt mentioned somehting about wanting fondue cake bits which I really wouldn't have much to do with unless I stuffed them or something since frosting is not an issue. Unless I froze the frosting on which might be nice dipped into a hot sauce. Hmmmm melting might be an issue. Interesting ideas though. I love to work with pastry. Damn can't find where Jesse posted the pictures of the last boob cake. I need to fetch them from her at some point to add them to my pastry pictures. I feel rather chuffed though. Everyone at the party thought I should go pro and make cakes for a living. LOL It is a fond dream but there are so many things in the way of me doing so. Anyhow cool thought.

I need to finish writing up my notes on the recent metaphysical stuff. I did something the other night and I wonder if it changed things again. Gotta pin K down and see if she noted a difference.

Off I go to finish my chores ^_^

*groans* I have a cake to deliver and I'm fairly sure my car will not make it up or down the driveway safely. Craptastic. Damnit I need to get this birthday cake delivered grrrrrr!

I also need a cake board and some fondant. Both I was going to go pick up later today. I wonder if I should go now and risk it or wait until later? Or beg Matt to forgive me and get him a cake next week? Crapity!

Alright cake board acquired. Fondant acquired. Baking can now begin.
I wonder if I should incorporate to get wholesale prices for cake baking supplies? I'm looking online right now for fondant because I'm so sick of buying a pound or two at a time for an exorbitant amount. Plus I need new colors and some gum paste. I suppose I don't need any of this stuff but to make the quality of cakes I like to I do in fact need these things. I also need a turntable that works properly. And like a few other things I really want. I was wandering through the craft store earlier today and the edible pearlescent powders called to me. LOL I can think of so many fun things to do with them. Mmmm and I just saw some you can use in the air brush, oh if only I had a million dollars I would buy so many things. That and a bigger kitchen. I think I'm gong to take over one of the shelves in the garage to store the things I don't use every month, the weirder cake pans etc. Actually I've been planning to do that for a while but have been busy the past two months. Maybe when I get back from visiting my mom.

It is really sad how proud I am of my ability to recognize how done a cake is by scent and sight alone. Today I'm doing a cake for Jeff. It is based of a Charm City cake though I'm modding it slightly. He requested a frosting instead of fondant so it will be chocolate with mint frosting.

The house smells really good right now. I'm waiting for the cake and rice crispys to cool so I can move onto the next stage of baking. The butter also needs to be a little softer before I can make up a frosting. More airbrushing yay! I'm getting to airbrush things about once or twice a month now. God how I love that thing! Thanks again Kae!!!

I'm also going to be making some chicken soup for Poppet and Wyatt soon. They are the very sick and I'm feeling particularly inclined to dote upon them. Besides which I almost never cook anymore and it will be nice to do some cooking. Hmm there's any interesting idea for gaming nights. *ponders*

I'm still exceedingly tired. Like more then is normal.

For TMI girl stuff )

But what ever I don't care. I have baking to do and some soup to make. I just wish I wasn't so tired. I slept tons but I'm still tired. I'd happily go back to sleep if I could. Oh well enough whinging out of me.

Edit: Cake Henge is complete bwhahaha!

But that means no decorating and I must use my airbrush (fiending!) What to do? What to do?

Oh and I desperately need to get more cardboard cakeboards.

Hmm maybe sleep soon

So my dough is refusing to rise. *glares at it* I am beginning to become annoyed. Grrr stupid donuts.

Anyhow the cookies should be done within 10 mins. LOL I so cannot imagine using those little tubes of dough anymore. It takes me less then 10 minutes to whip up a cookie dough and have it in the oven. *chuckles* I have become scary me thinks.

Trying a different cookie recipe today. Our GM doesn't like chocolate (she's really nice so we forgive her) so I'm making peanut butter chip cookies, YUM.

Tuesday and Saturday dessert nights is working out really well for me. Gives me a project to work on and someone to feed baked goods to. I adore baking but I don't always want to eat my creations. Not because they are bad or anything but mostly because I don't have a hug sweet tooth. *chuckles* I'm strange.

I am officially happy with my new donut recipe. Actually LOL it is the same one I made last Saturday that I never got around to using. I finally made them up tonight and they ROCK! This is exactly what I was looking for in a donut recipe. They taste rather like Krispey Kreme only the crust is a little crisper.

So I'm bringing a fresh batch of these for gaming and some cookies in case no one likes these.

Yay happy Seo.

Today was the first day of the NPC. We had 101 people come in which is way good for a second year run, first day.

I had an amazing amount of fun. I'm sure I'll write more about it later. I'm sooooooo tired right now. Came home to bank bullshit which I have to sort out early Monday when they are open. Grrrr stupid bank. I hate checks. Checks always give me issues. I need to get everything online but I'm too tired to figure it out the set up right now. Sufficed to say I have a fairly good idea of what went wrong and what to do to fix it but grrrr.

Yes, but NPC so fun!!!! I'm having such a blast and making all sorts of new friends. I get weirded out at times going into new groups and it is nice to be sort of finding a place now. Everyone (save one annoying girl I didn't like anyhow) liked the donuts. I was still unhappy with them but I suspect that is more my issue then the actual baking issue. Tomorrow I'm planning on muffins. So much easier and I can get other things done while they bake.

All my video games that took me an hour to arrange and sort were well received. *grinz* The Robots at the NPC keep calling it the Nintendo Anthology. LOL I have way too many systems and games. I brought almost everything I own which is tons. I'm so happy people are using my things. I so seldom use them that it is really nice to have others using my games and consoles. I get such a warm happy feeling. ^_^

Anyhow I'm about to pass out while sitting here. Bed for me and baking in the morning.

*yawns* About 4 dozen donuts and a shagload of donut holes. Go me! I'm a little worried about bringing them. I mean what if they suck? How embarrassing! So far Murphy and Matt both said they are good but they are my housemates, they have to tell me they're good. I still have the yeast ones in the frig. I'm not gonna get to that dough tonight. Should hold for a day. These are cider donuts. They are very crunchy but the middle is soft. I wonder if they are okay. Well at this point there isn't much I can do.

I believe I'm going to bed now.

Oh and NPC in 5 hours!!!!! Squee! (though I'll be awake in 3)
So I have to be out of this house in 6 hours. Haven't slept yet and i have hmm five batches of donuts to cook and glaze. LOL Can we say bonkers?

Anyhow I am taking a two second journal update break before continuing my efforts. I have completed all clothing for the weekend. The shirt is squee worthy. Kt did an amazingly kickass job on the skirt. It is also squee worthy. All I have left is to lop the legs of a pair of my black pants. Not sure which ones yet but no biggy.

Soooooooo donut making for me and your day before reminder:

New Paltz (Gaming) Convention

The con is tomorrow and Sunday!!!!

Here's the website: NPC (npc.newpaltzsa.com)

It is going to rock the socks. We have tabletop games, RPGs, every system you can possibly think of, freaking contests, gaming movies etc. It is on the 3rd & 4th from 11am to 10pm. The pricing is $3 for students and $6 for non-students.

I expect to see every single one of you there or bad things will happen to you. But seriously this con is going to fucking rock and we need all the support you can muster.

If I was a better con slave I'd have a more extensive list but it is just so big I get distracted ^_~ LOL Check the website for directions and program of events.

See you all there!!!
So this week's adventure in Tuesday baking actually happened on-time. That is I just finished up and the brownies are in the freezer getting chilled. Being a bit bored I decided to make them very decadent. LOL That and I'm trying to be all impressive and stuff.

Pictures tomorrow. The ganache is still setting. Hehe I rock. I suspect they are going to be very tasty and rich. Mmm brownies.

Well I made cupcakes at the request of a friend. Was gonna make them last week but the game got canceled and so they got made this week. They tasted spectacular. Like little bombs of chocolately wonderfulness. Unfortunately I used K's ganache recipe and we had a bit of a miscommunication problem and so the stuff never set. But it wasn't supposed to, I was supposed to whip it and well yeah. Anyhow so they were a little bit messy covered in gooey chocolate yummy. I also made marzipan leaves and airbrushed them. They looked really good. I can't wait to find other things to airbrush. Bwhaha I even airbrushed K today. Actually she was the first thing I airbrushed. Hehe.

The problem with having this kickass new tool is I have nothing to color. Yes it will be damned useful soon but I just got past the major fall birthdays. Fuck. Hmm I suspect I'm going to be randomly baking sheet cakes this week. Or airbrushing my housemates. I believe they shall all soon learn to fear the sound of the airbrush.

Bwhahaha!
